TerraMaster TNAS use cases

Well, there are many reasons why you should use a TerraMaster TNAS. For users whose needs for storage surpass their device's internal capacity, they may be forced to seek out external storage options. The need for backups can also create a demand for additional storage - often a single disk external drive enclosure isn't enough.

Media/Large files storage

If you are looking to store large amounts of media files securely over the cloud then TerraMaster TNAS is the solution you are looking for. Through TNAS you can store your data to the cloud securely and access it anywhere anytime.

Home Multimedia

With TNAS you can not only store the media files but can set up Home multimedia and access those media files from laptops, mobile, tablets, Firestick TVs etc without having to copy and paste the file to your device.

Manage and securely access company files

TNAS provides an easy way to manage, access, and share files between different devices and operating systems, whether you are using a personal computer, tablet, or mobile phone. This will make the company's data management easier and improve work efficiency between different departments.

Why should I set up a VPN on TerraMaster TNAS?

If you are behind a CGNAT then you must be facing issues in accessing your TNAS remotely because CGNAT doesn’t allow you to forward ports this is where PureVPN comes in handy as PureVPN can help you eliminate CGNAT and connect you directly to a public IP address, which is one of the only ways to fix the issues associated with CGNAT when accessing your TNAS.

NAS, or network-attached storage, refers to a file storage device that is dedicated to providing users with access to files. Because NAS devices are connected to your network, this allows all users to easily access files from a central location. However, it's important to note that you should install a VPN on your NAS device in order to keep all traffic private and secure while it's being sent over the network.

Most of the TNAS supports VPN clients such as F2-221/F5-221/F2-423/F4-423/F5-422 and so on.  So you can directly set up the VPN connection by going into the Network settings and creating a VPN profile.

However if you have ARM devices then you won’t be able to set up a VPN client on your TerraMaster. For this you will require a VPN supported router to establish a VPN connection and connect your TNAS with it.

How do I access my TNAS remotely with Port Forwarding?

If you have a TerraMaster TNAS and you want to access it remotely from anywhere then you achieve that through PureVPN by setting up PureVPN on your router, and enable the required port for accessing TNAS.

Note: Before configuring VPN on router please make sure that your router is not working as a modem and have PPTP.

  • Get PureVPN subscription with Dedicated IP and PortForwarding addon from here
  • Log into your router’s web interface. This is usually done by entering your router’s IP address into a web browser.
  • Go to the PureVPN members area and allow the required port to access TNAS remotely. This tutorial will help you out in setting up Port Forwarding.
  • Locate the Port Forwarding or NAT settings in your router and navigate to the TCP port option. Configure Port Forwarding by entering the desired port and specifying the IP address of your TNAS.
  • Find the section for VPN settings and enter your VPN server’s IP address or Hostname
  •  Save your changes and reboot your router.
  • There you go! You will now be able to access your TerraMaster TNAS remotely.
